The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity house at 1017 Catherine Street in 1911. The two-story house near Glen Avenue provided lodging to male and female African American students for more than 50 years. The house was sold to Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in the 1950s and demolished in 1963. Today, the University of Michigan Hospital’s Glen Avenue Parking structure stands at the site.
